Southampton under NINES player produces long-range belter

One for the future? Southampton starlet scores an incredible long-range belter... playing for the under-NINES

  • The youngster channelled his inner Matt Le Tissier as he scored for the Saints

  • The clip has been viewed nearly 60,000 times since being posted on Instagram 

Although he may not even have heard of Matt Le Tissier, this young Southampton player can certainly strike like the Saints legend. 

The youngster channelled his inner Le Tissier as he scored a wonder goal in a Southampton Under-9s fixture at the club's Staplewood training ground.  

'When you’re an Under-9 but can produce this. Our #SaintsFC Academy GOTM, folks!' wrote the club's official account when they shared the clip. 

In the video, the youngster picks up the ball on the right wing before standing up a defender and dropping his left shoulder, shifting the ball away from his opponent. 

Another defender comes over to try and disposes him, but suffers the same fate as the lightning quick winger shifts the ball past him, into a central area about 23 yards out. 

He then shapes to shoot on his left foot and delivers an unbelievable long-range strike that looked way beyond his years.

The clip has been viewed nearly 60,000 times and the comments section prove that there is already excitement around the youth player. 

'Get him in the first team,' wrote one Instagrammer, while another jokingly added: 'Promote him to @liverpoolfc senior team already,' referring to Liverpool's well-documented signing of Saints talent. 

Former Chelsea, Birmingham and Wigan defender Mario Melchiot was also impressed, posting the eyeballs emoji under the post.

Southampton's academy has produced top players such as Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Calum Chambers, Le Tissier, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Luke Shaw and Kevin Phillips. 

The Saints academy 'vision', according to the website is 'to produce a first team year-on-year made up of 50% Academy graduates who are world-class in their technical ability on the field and behaviours off the field competing on the European stage.'

The academy holds a Category 1 status in the Premier League's new Elite Player Performance Plan.
